“However, proliferation of the Internet and its popularity among youth has caused the decline of amateur radio. In the past five years alone, the number of people holding active ham radio licenses has dropped by 50,000, even though Morse Code is no longer a requirement.”
What are your comments about this article and the “extinction” of our beloved hobby!

I would restore the Novice License with the code requirement and make it renewable.
Let the code test be satisfied by a certificate from W1AW and the exam given by mail. An adult or two would be required to administer the test but they should not have to be hams.
Some people just don’t live close to other hams or know other ham radio operators except on the air.

Please check your facts before publishing things.
On March 10, 2009, the number of licensed Amateur Radio operators in the US reached it’s highest number ever of 688,666. See http://www.ah0a.org/FCC/Licenses.html for the facts. That’s an increase of 11,000 over the past five years!
Amateur Radio isn’t dying , it’s expanding and thriving!
