October Outing Shifted to Saturday, 20 October 2012

Central Florida QRP Group

We call our monthly outings “Back to the Woods Mini-DXpeditions” and participation is not limited to “5W CW”, but lower power (~ 20W max) using battery operated equipment and any mode or band. Opening up the group beyond the classic “CW 5W“ has created greater participation, and the larger groups have attracted more interest from the passers-by in the park.   These outings have also been an opportunity to discuss technical issues or have just casual conversations.  

We have breakfast around 0730 at the Cracker Barrel in Sanford (200 Hickman Dr., Sanford – the NE corner of I-4 and SR 46 just north from the Seminole Town Center Mall) and then it is a short drive to Sylvan Lake Park which is about 5 miles west of I-4 and south off of SR 46. Special Event Stations to Look For; 28-30 September 2012

First off, apologies for missing the last two weekends with special event posts, this hasn’t been a good month for blogging or radio on my part it seems.  The battleship Wisconsin, BB-64 final decommissioning special event will be a good catch for anyone interested in historic special events or museum ships on the air.  I would also like to thank Kevin, K5KVN for contacting me and asking me to include an event he’ll be participating in – the first ever activation of Horseshoe Island.  If you’ve got a special event station coming up, don’t hesitate to contact me with the details and I’ll include it in my posts.
