Simulated Emergency Test 2012

It is that time of year again .!.
Every year the ARRL‘s Amateur Radio Emergency Service conducts a test (SET) of their operational readiness and preparedness plans for managing a communications emergency. This year our test in Huntsville/Madison County Alabama will be in conducted in association with the HMCEMA. We have contacts within many local and regional agencies that would like to participate with us. Our exercise will be held on Saturday, Oct.6 2012 ; starting sometime after 8am, and concluding somewhere around noon. We don’t disclose many details before the exercise, to keep participants prepared for anything.We will toss in a few surprises along the way to add some excitement. We expect to have a picnic downtown in Big Springs Park after the exercise concludes.

Hall of Science Amateur Radio Club Hamfest

The Hall of Science Amateur Radio Club is holding its 2nd semi-annual
hamfest for 2012 on Sunday, October 14, 2012. Sellers setup starts at 7:30 and
doors open to buyers at 9.00 AM. Don’t forget to try our  Drop’N’Shop feature!
Bring a couple of items down that you’d like to sell and we’ll do our best to
sell them for you.
(so you don’t need to buy a table for one or two items, freeing you up
to enjoy the hamfest).

NEW Free admission for new members joining at the hamfest.
Fully equipped food truck with hot food, coffee and soda.
Door prizes and handouts donated by the ARRL, MFJ , N3FJP, the QSLMan and CQ Communications

Battery Tech, AMSAT, QSL card checking, and  the Section Manager, Mike Lisenco N2YBB will be there.

Location at the New York Hall of Science Museum
Parking Lot. 47-01 111th Street,
Flushing Meadow Corona Park, Queens NY.
Electronic and computer equipment, tailgating. Tune up clinic,
Drop and shop, Food and refreshments will be available, QSL card Checking.

2012 New York QSO Party

4th Anniversary Special Event

The help celebrate the 4h Anniversary of the New York QSO Party, several New York stations will be signing Special 1×1 call signs during the 2012 New York QSO Party, October 20-21, 2012.

Those calls, will be spelling out “NYQSO Party”, which coincidentally, has 9 letters!

The Special 1×1 call signs and the stations activating them are:

  • W2N (WN2IHJ), N2N (NY2NY), K2N (K2CZ) (N2Y (N2CU)
  • N2Q (K2DB), K2Q (K2QB), W2Q (AD2TM)
  • K2S (N2TEE), N2S (N2SAB)
  • K2O (WB2ABD), N2O (W2CS), W2O (AB3CX)
  • N2P (WB2OQQ), K2P (K2UC)
  • K2A (K2QO/K2ZR), W2A (K2ARM)
  • W2R (W2RR/WA2AOG), K2R (K2IZ), N2R (N2ZN)
  • N2T (KC2VMP), K2T (K2TV), W2T (W2TZ)
  • W2Y (KC2QLJ), K2Y (KN2Y)

The stations will be operating CW,RTTY and SSB and are being hosted at single and multi-op stations around the state.

There will be special awards for working all 9 1×1 call signs listed above (and only those 1×1 call signs). You may work them single mode, mixed mode, or once on CW, once on RTTY and once on Phone!

Plaques will be awarded to the first station to work all special NYQP 1×1 Call signs (on CW, RTTY and Phone).

Certificates will be e-mailed to any station contacting any of the special 1×1 call signs listed above.

Submitted NYQP logs will be used to determine award winners.
