While I was looking through the dxzone for some new antenna ideas, I came across this article by Diana Eng (KC2UHB).  If you want an end-fed half-wavelength antenna that can cover the 17, 20, 30, and 40 meter bands, this could be the antenna you’re looking for.  I’ll have to try this out.  Aloha de KH6JRM
