KE2YK Activating Wertheim National Wildlife Refuge for Parks on The Air K-0481

I’ve been involved in amateur radio since the early 1990s and upgraded to Amateur Extra more than 25 years ago.

Although I enjoy experimenting with many aspects of the hobby, HF CW remains my favorite. Years ago, I was one of those slightly crazy operators who worked CW/QRP mobile during long commutes. Those days are behind me, but my enthusiasm for CW and low-power operating remains strong.

When time permits, I enjoy Parks on the Air activations from state parks and other public lands. The photo above was taken during an activation at Wertheim National Wildlife Refuge K-0481.

I still miss the “glory days” of the early 1990s, when my call sign was new and the HF bands seemed loaded with signals near the peak of the solar cycle.

Over the years, I have held various positions in local amateur-radio clubs, served as an ARRL Volunteer Examiner, and participated in numerous emergency-communications events as an ARES member.
