I just found out that my ICOM IC-7300 had a firmware update released by ICOM Japan back in February. Apparently the update also applies to the IC-705 and IC-9700.

The update enhances the functionality of the spectrum scope, multi function knob and now has a second menu for saving and loading your own custom presets. One of the new factory presets configures the IC-7300 for FT8. You can also reassign some of the front panel and hand mic buttons. There’s more new features in the addendum as well.

For those of you that may have missed finding out about this update like I did, the PDF addendum to the manual(s) can be found here. I chose the IC-7300 firmware update information.

If you wish to skip the 3 part firmware update video presentation below by Tom WA2IVD you can download the firmware here. IMPORTANT! Make a backup copy of your current IC-7300 configuration BEFORE doing the update. The update will set the IC-7300 back to factory status.

Tom’s YouTube channel, Ham Radio A2Z has released a comprehensive 3 part YouTube series on the details of updating the firmware and explaining all of the firmware enhancements.
