Rugged protection. Smarter connections. A Xiegu G90 built for the field.

The Xiegu G90 is already a great little radio for portable operation. You get 20 watts of output, a built-in automatic antenna tuner, detachable display and a compact package that’s easy to take to the park.

But if your G90 regularly gets tossed into a POTA bag, vehicle or portable station box, protecting it becomes a concern.

That’s where the Armoloq TPA-G90B comes in.

If you’re looking for one of the best Xiegu G90 accessories for POTA, this protective chassis deserves a closer look. It can turn a basic Xiegu G90 portable station into a more rugged and organized field setup without permanently modifying the radio.

Product: Armoloq TPA-G90B Protective Chassis

What Is the Armoloq TPA-G90B?

The TPA-G90B is a two-piece protective chassis designed specifically for the Xiegu G90.

It’s constructed from 1/8-inch 5052 aluminum with a matte-black powder-coated finish and attaches using the G90’s eight existing side mounting holes.

That means no drilling and no permanent modification to your radio.

Once installed, the chassis adds protection around the radio and detachable control head while keeping the controls accessible.

For operators building a rugged Xiegu G90 setup for regular field use, it’s a simple idea that makes a lot of sense.

How Much Size and Weight Does It Add?

According to Armoloq, the TPA-G90B chassis is approximately:

  • 11.5 inches long
  • 2.5 inches deep
  • 0.75 pound

For most Xiegu G90 POTA setups, that additional three-quarters of a pound probably isn’t going to be a deal-breaker.

For SOTA, however, it’s a different story.

If you’re hiking several miles and carrying your entire station on your back, every ounce matters. The Armoloq chassis is better suited to operators who value protection, organization and fast deployment over keeping their station as light as possible.

Xiegu G90 Antenna Relocation

The protective chassis is useful, but I think Armoloq’s optional relocation packages are what really make this system interesting.

The optional PL-TNC/RA3 RF relocation package moves the G90’s antenna connection to a more convenient position on the chassis.

It includes a short RG-58C/U coax assembly, right-angle PL-259-to-TNC connection, TNC bulkhead connector, TNC-to-BNC adapter and mounting hardware.

For anyone building a permanent Xiegu G90 field radio setup, relocating the antenna connection can make setup much cleaner.

Instead of reaching around the radio every time you connect your coax, the antenna connection is positioned where it’s easier to reach.

Xiegu G90 Microphone Relocation

Armoloq also offers an RJ45 microphone relocation package.

A short extension moves the microphone connection to a more convenient location on the chassis.

It sounds like a small improvement until you’re sitting at a picnic table surrounded by coax, power cables, a battery, logging equipment and digital-mode cables.

For a Xiegu G90 go box or compact portable station, having connections exactly where you want them can make a big difference.

Building a Better Xiegu G90 POTA Setup

This is where the Armoloq concept really appeals to me.

Mount the G90 in the chassis, relocate the antenna and microphone connections, and organize your cables once.

You could even incorporate a digital interface into the station if you operate FT8 or other digital modes.

Then arriving at the park becomes something closer to:

Connect the battery. Connect the antenna. Turn on the G90. Start operating.

That’s exactly what I want from a portable station.

The G90’s internal automatic antenna tuner already makes it a very flexible field radio. Adding a protective chassis and intelligently positioned connections makes the entire station easier to deploy.

For operators who activate parks frequently, that convenience may be more valuable than the armor itself.

Is the Armoloq TPA-G90B Weatherproof?

No—and this is worth emphasizing.

The Armoloq chassis provides mechanical protection, not weather protection.

It can help protect the G90 from bumps, knocks and accidental contact with other equipment, but it doesn’t seal the radio against rain, moisture, dust or sand.

You’ll still need to protect the radio when operating in bad weather.

Think of the TPA-G90B as armor for your G90, not a waterproof enclosure.

POTA, SOTA and Emergency Communications

For Parks on the Air, I think this is where the TPA-G90B really shines.

If you’re operating near your vehicle or carrying your equipment a short distance to a picnic table, the extra weight isn’t much of a concern. The added protection and easier connections can be well worth it.

The chassis also makes sense for:

  • POTA activations
  • Vehicle-based portable operation
  • Emergency communications
  • Field Day
  • Camping
  • Xiegu G90 go-box installations

SOTA operators face a different calculation. If you’re hiking significant distances and elevation, the additional weight may be difficult to justify.

Is the Armoloq TPA-G90B Worth It?

If your G90 spends most of its life sitting safely on your desk, probably not.

But if you’re regularly taking the radio into parks, vehicles, campsites, Field Day sites or emergency communications exercises, the TPA-G90B becomes much more interesting.

For operators looking for a rugged Xiegu G90 setup, the combination of physical protection, Xiegu G90 antenna relocation and Xiegu G90 microphone relocation can turn the radio into a much cleaner grab-and-go HF station.

And that’s really the appeal.

You’re not changing what the G90 can do.

You’re making it easier to take those capabilities into the field.

Sometimes the best radio upgrade isn’t buying another radio.

It’s making the radio you already own easier to use.
